Unfotunatly i dont have any screenshots of my work and how i made the rocking chair only the final product, for future posts i shall take screenshots throughout the entire build of an object at key moments. For this one though i shall just describe it in extreme detail.
The build started with a cylinder relativly thin and elongated, added more sub-divisions to it for a smoother looking cylinder, then carving into it with extruding tools to make the indents of a rocking chairs structural frame once this was complete, i copied it and moved it over aproximtly 9 units on the Maya grid. using these as my base plate for all the cylindrical shapes in the chair this cylinder was then copied and scaled down to size to be the 2 front legs that are smaller as they dont form into the back legs, then using just regular cylinders to make the joints with little to no detail on. The back rest was made from a primitive cube mesh into a rectangle adding subdivisions to add more edges and vertex's lifting the middle vertexes to create a headrest shapped object using the "non-linear" bend tool i created a curve to the headrest to fit the shape of the human head. Then added it on to the backrest. a simple rectangle was made for the lower lumbar suppport and itted in. In the gap between the lower lumbar and headress beveled edged rectangle "pole" shaped objects were added as a generel back rest. After these were moved into place 2 things were left to be done. I worked on the Rocking legs by making rectangles beveling the edges and then adding another "non-linear" bend tool to curve the rocking "legs". The final part was then to be added the seat, making the seat was relativly simple a rectangle with a smaller square extrusion on the end roated down by aprooximtly 7 degrees down. then this was copied over and rotaed across slgihtly then copied again and roated even more. the same to the other side of the original rectangle. this was then merged into one object and palced onto the correct position on the chair. The whole chair was merged and completed.
I plan to add a normal tileable wood texture to it jsut to get a nice effect in the in maya render engine just for a nice aesthetic design, i will have the screenshots when i post that tomorrow.
